CD/DVD Driver deleted from Registry in XP Pro with SP3

I think my CD/DVD Driver has been deleted from the Registry in XP Pro with SP3.
It does not show up in System nor Device Manager.
I have tried solutions provided from Microsoft Fix-it and have had no success.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
If nothing else, what about and how would I attemt a remote recovery? The CD/DVD Drive has no path to the system, therefore I am unable to use my recovery disk.
