Troubleshoot:Adding a custom heading 1 style

Adding a custom heading 1 style

I would like to create a level 1 heading style that reads "Chapter x - chaptername".
I created a new style and used the numbering and custom number format (it started with a grayed "1") where I modified the default "1" by adding "Chapter " in front of the
grayed "1" and " - " after the grayed "1".
When I used the style the text "Chapter 1 - " shows up and the cursor is positioned after the tab character.
If I attempt to delete the tab with the entire first part of the text and the tab goes away.
I am 100% confident that I did not put it there as I deleted the style and re-added it with the same result.
In the tabs section I set to no tabs.
When I attempt to modify the style here is the description that Word gives:
"Font: 20 pt, Italic, Indent: Left:  0.25", Hanging:  0.25", Centered, Space After:  24 pt, Level 1, Numbered + Level: 1 + Numbering Style: 1, 2, 3, … + Start at: 1 + Alignment: Left + Aligned at:  0.25" + Indent at:  0.5", Style: Quick Style, Based on:
Normal, Following style: Normal"
How do I get rid of that tab???

Download Error Fixer (Free)

In the Paragraph Section of the Home tab of the Ribbon, click on the Multilevel List pulldown and select Create New Multilevel List.  You should do this when you have the Heading 1 style selected.  Apart from this method of accessing the Format Numbering
dialog, everything else in the article applies.

I went to the Shauna Kelly page you note above, but much of it is not Word 2007 centric.
For example in step 2 of her explanation the only way to get "Customize Outline Numbered List: dialog box is to right click the style in the ribbon and select "Modify" and when the dialog box comes up pick "Format (at the bottom left) > Numbering" but the
customize is only for the Heading 1 style, not all of them (there is no list down the left)
Thus I'm rather stymied at this point.
I cannot find the dialog box shown in her figure 2 anywhere.
Is there a version of her document that works for Word 2007 anywhere? I went to my wife's machine with Word 2003 and Shauna's document works perfectly, but I cannot get past step 2 in Word 2007
Thanks again...
