A watermark that won't delete.

I have a square watermark over the "c" on the "confidential" watermark.  I hit remove watermark and then saved.  Once I added the watermark (confidential) again, the square box returned.  Additionally, the square does not show on the document unless printed. 
The "confidential" watermark shows both on the unprinted and printed document.  What can I do to delete the square?
