After input a formula in a cell of an excel worksheet and the formula includes the use of data in a cell on another worksheet, the whole input disappear in the input cell

I am using Office 2007.   After I input a very simple formula, say one cell value plus another cell, the input disppears.   One ot the cell is either in another page of the workbook or another file.  Actually, sometimes I find that the whole input was moved
to another worksheet same cell (i.e A1) or on the same worksheet but different cell (say B10).   Why??
