Backup and restore doesn't recognize my external HDD.

When I try to use the ms backup and restore it doesn't recogniza my external HDD.
Is that possible reinstall it or fix it???

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Answers Forum.
First, I would check and see if the external hard drive is listed on the Windows 7 Compatibility Center.
Clickhere for a link to the Compatibility
Center.
If it is on the compatibility center, then check the manufacturer's web site for any updates or drivers.
Next, check to see if you see the external hard drive in Device manager.
To check these options:
1.
Click the Start button to view the Start Menu and then choose theControl Panel option.
2.
The Control Panel window opens up.
Now click the System and Security link from this window.
3.
Scrollfor the Device Manager.
4.
Click on the Device Manager.
5.
To view the hardware click on any category and the related list of installed hardware will appear.
Eg.
Click on Hard drives.
Right click on external hard drive.
You will see various options likeUpdate Driver Software, Disable, Uninstall and Properties
etc.
6. Click on Properties to view the detail of the hardware.
Click onDriver tab to view the
Device Driver detail.
7.
Then on Update Driver Software to check and see if you have the latest drivers.
Then check again and see if you can back up to the external hard drive.
If not, try to map a drive to the external hard drive.
Can you backup now.

If you failed to fix it, another option is to call Microsoft and walk through the process with a technician. To do this, dial "1-800-936-5700". Explain the error that you received and the steps in the update process during which it was displayed. The technician will be able to walk through the steps from getting a new product key to finishing the installation.
